How to Enter the IT World

It's Time For Recruitment To Become A Sustainable ...

The Context  By now, you must be sick of articles beginning with ‘ever since the pandemic’. But it’s...

You may think the IT World is the same thing as Tech World, but allow me to settle this from the beginning. Technology is more about developing a tool based on specific knowledge, rather than the IT World where we are talking about developing a product or a service that derives its value from data.

A more proper understanding of what is the differences between those two industries can be made through examples:

  • Technology is used primarily in industries such as space, transportation and so on.
  • Information Technology can be anything from business software, mobile apps to games.

Now, getting back to the things that you must know before entering this world, well, there are a few of them that you must take into consideration.

Surely, when it comes to the first job, there are many variables. Taking a step back to read all you can find about your future company or a job description can improve your means of entering that company.

Did you know that you can create your path to any job that you want? Well, a few things can help you to get ready for an IT job such as:

What are those specific things that make you different from other candidates?

Before anything else makes a list of at least five soft skills that can make you an IT rockstar (Quick tip: problem-solving, creativity, analytic abilities, communication, or teamwork could be some of the soft skills that companies want.).

Prepare a list of things that you want from the company.

When you are looking for companies where you could start your career in IT, you probably search for the leading companies. Making a list of them can help you to make an easy comparison. By comparing them, you can spot things that can help you later in your recruiting process.

Make a list of companies that met your requirements.

Ok, after you make that list, the next step could be setting your expectations for that job. Filtering them will make it easier for you to find a better job match, and knowing what makes you a better candidate for that job can increase your chances of getting it.

Apply for those jobs.

You already know a plan without execution is not a plan at all. After you have everything in line, you can apply for that job, and one thing is maybe more important in this step: not taking it personally if they don't reach out to you. Many companies in the IT world don’t have a strategic plan when it comes to recruitment.

At the end of the day, all that you must have when you are going to an interview or when you are applying to a new entry-level job in the IT industry is that you should be a person driven by learning. It will be a long road with many challenges that definitely will improve you and your career over time.
